Short Circuit is an exercise in all things 80's. From cornball dialogue to a soundtrack featuring DeBarge, the movie does not hold up well. The effects look dated and the overall anti-war sentiment reminds me of other retro features like War Games. On another note certain characters could be dismissed as almost racist fabrications. But, this was the 1980s. Some things could slip past a little easier as not everything had to yield to political correctness.
The film features some comedy that's still laughable but cheesy as all hell. The best part of the film is it's starring robot and his excellent banter. To this day I find myself quoting the freedom loving military robot, Johnny 5. Yes, Number 5 is alive but beware the sequel!
