Hesher is an unusual character piece that deals with loss, anger, failure and love amid a distinctly American backdrop. While the film is quite sluggish in spots, Levitt once again shines in one of the best independent films of the past year. Portman and Wilson also do some of their best support work to date.
Hesher is a blatantly stoned loser that has no respect for anyone or anything but somehow manages to infect all those he meets with his distinct brand of contempt for everything. Hesher is the self destructive character we've all met at some point in our lives successfully materialized on screen.
If you're a fan of simple indie films with a message, you'll enjoy this one.
