Screener: Bolly Double

I've never had the pleasure nor the real desire watch a Bollywood film. Recently, I'm trying to expand my horizons and move away from strictly U.S. releases. It just so happens that my first experience with the genre is actually a Canadian produced satirical romp that pokes fun at Bollywood and it's routines.

This week, SFMS was given a screener of an independent Bollywood satire called Bolly Double. While the film is not going to win any awards, I will honestly say that it's a light enough movie I would feel comfortable letting my daughter watch. That says a lot. The film is an innocent piece that strays away from profanity and questionable themes. This is saccharine sweet cinema dashed with a heaping of melodrama.

The story is quite predictable and something we've seen over and over again but it's still just enough to suggest if you're in the mood for something light and slightly funny. The strongest point of the film is the women. Let's face it. These women are beautiful.

So, I'm not going to give it a strong recommendation. It's something I would only suggest if you're a fan of Bollywood films and have a desire to watch something sugary and innocent.
