New To Blu: We Need To Talk About Kevin

We Need To Talk About Kevin is a dramatic family portrait that truly captures a modern family and  youth gone awry. This is not a movie for the faint of heart or those that are easily alarmed by disturbing images or realistic violence. We Need To Talk About Kevin takes place in the real world and eloquently captures a mother's struggle with a child she knows is the true definition of evil incarnate.

Tilda Swinton is one of the best working actresses of our generation and absolutely inhabits her role in this movie. Her portrayal of a distraught mother is easily one of the best of the year and will hopefully garner her some Oscar consideration. Ezra Miller gives his finest performance to date as the heinous title character, Kevin. This teen takes a role that could have easily been a typical "teen gone wrong" portrayal and turns it on it's head with a performance befitting many top notch actors. Ezra plays evil and he plays it well. Also featured is John C. Reilly who is quite obviously out of his league with actors of this caliber.

We Need To Talk About Kevin is a sharp, character driven study that captures the essence of manipulation, psychological torment and a mother's unconditional love. It's a gripping piece that will make you realize how easily life can be taken in an instant and the human wreckage that may follow suit. I highly recommend this movie to those that can stomach scenes of violence, both emotional and physical.
