Article: Affleck Is Batman. Now, Get Over It!!!!

So, this week we got the big news that Ben Affleck was taking over the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Get over it.

Typically we don't comment on things like this but the whole response has been extremely silly and childish in many aspects. Ten years ago had you told me that he was going to play Batman, I probably would have laughed you out of the room. But that was then and this is now. Despite some bad choices as an actor mid-career, how has Affleck pissed you off so much that you can't show a little support for this choice? After all, they selected him. From what I understand, he didn't petition for the role. It's a big payday for an actor that's paid his dues time and time again.

Was Christian Bale really that good of a Batman and why is everyone saying they chose Affleck over Bale? They didn't. Bale was done with his time in the suit well before The Dark Knight Rises was even shooting. Okay. So, I'll admit. Bale was decent as Batman but never really impressed me as Bruce Wayne. He lacks that millionaire swagger that Bruce Wayne needs. In that aspect, Affleck may be the better choice. He's got the acting chops and definitely has the chin to pull it off.

Ben Affleck has two Oscars sitting on a mantle somewhere. I repeat, two Oscars. But, he hasn't proven himself worthy enough to portray a man in a bat suit? Honestly, his resume may not be as well suited for this type of role. So really, what does he have to do to prove himself worthy? Win two Oscars maybe. Those little statues aren't just handed out at random. There is careful consideration that goes in to who wins those precious golden men. And he deserved it both times. He also deserves some respect. When was the last time you made a movie as good as Argo, The Town, Gone Baby Gone or Good Will Hunting? I can answer that. Never. Get over yourself.

Batman is a character that's been played time and time again by numerous actors. Remember the backlash over Keaton? Remember the internet frenzy over Ledger as the Joker? I do. And I never understood the vitriol over movie/comic book characters and who might portray them. We won't know until we see the first trailer how this might turn out. We really won't know until the movie gets released in a couple years. Until then, please continue your nerd rage while you work towards winning your first Oscar.

  1. The guy is already doing 2 hours a day in the gym, and is probably on the Hugh Jackman/Wolverine diet. Does he strike you as someone who doesn't dedicate himself to his roles...I agree, give the dude a chance.

    1. Yes Ben is the new batman. But he will Never be batman. Dont get me wrong he will make a good Bruce but batman never. He doesnt have that aura to play batman. He can play a jedi fine but he is no sith if you get what i am trying to say. And to play Batman you need to have a dark and deep acting past. And i am sorry he fails at that in movies. Plus now you have a A class actor that to be real will try hes very best to over act everyone in the screen like he did in o-town. but yes i agree we have to deal with it. we have no choice. Will this stop people from going to the movies to watch it Hell no. But i know now that WB/DC sort pulled this Man of steel by Luck. But to go and say Ben is the prefect choice he really isnt sorry far from it .the two awards you are praising him for he was carried. thro the movie. and really argo really was a ok movie. But at the end we have to deal with it. But the real thought is WB/DC will never live up to what they are selling. Marvel/ Disney will keep on out showing and doing them over and over again because wb/dc does not listen to the people. And wb/dc dont know how to take chances on things in a good way. Ben is a good actor but he was just a safe choice and they didnt really think about it. No one really knew who Henry Cavill was till MOS no one know who andrew garfield was untill spider man and really that is what made these movies amazing. but putting Ben into a movie that is filled with B and C rated actors isnt going to save DC/WB at all. For me what they did was take the cast of Glee and having them in a movie that they have to sing with Frank San or the rat pack in total. He is going to take away from what the movie can really be...

  3. I bet the people at Warner Bros are doing a happy dance right now. All the attention this has generated is exactly what they need. It doesn't matter that it is "bad press" so-to-speak because every person that is freaking out about this will be there on opening night.

  6. Van Damme and Vin Diesel class of acting? You must be joking. Of course this is from an Anonymous user. Have you seen The Town or Argo? Probably not.

  7. How about State Of Play
    He was good in that.

  8. I don't buy the whole 2 Oscars argument since both are for non-acting Oscars. It's like saying Ang Lee would make a good actor since he has 2 Oscars. George Clooney has an Oscar for Best Actor and I bet people would be more outraged if he decided to take on that role again.

After letting the idea percolate in my head, I do think he'll make a decent Batman. My first reaction was not outrage but confusion since I never saw that one coming. I just hope people will see him for what he is now (a good actor/great director) and not the celebrity he was back then (Bennifer).

  9. I think you missed the point. All I'm saying is give the guy a chance. He's earned it by delivering quality films the past few years.

  10. Personally, I don't think there's a problem with him being Batman so much as there is a problem with them deciding to use Batman at all. The issue I have with him being recast isn't in the casting, but in the fact that this huge series of movies JUST ENDED and they're already revamping him. This would've been an amazing opportunity to throw another super hero into the mix (Wonder Woman, anyone?) rather than to use the same two tired-ass ones. At this point, it's just laziness because no one wants to put the work in for a different super hero. And I'm not a huge fan of laziness in my movies.

  11. My reason for not wanting Ben Afflick is not because he doesn't totally look the part. I think he can look the part of Bruce Wayne in suite and out of suite but his voice, his non-experience in doing real fight scenes and his acting chops are, for me at least, is better for comedy movies. Did I just typecast him? Yes, I did. Sorry.

Ben better get in shape fast and getting his acting down damn tight...Christian Bale is really a tough act to follow.

    1. Ben Affleck is a seasoned veteran actor. He's not even close to a joke anymore. I can't believe that anyone calling themselves movie fans aren't fully aware of his respectable career as a fine actor.

News flash, his voice can be changed! No way! It's called acting, actually, and he's done it many times in the past. No one is listening to what matters: the QUALITY and TONE of his voice, which would perfectly compliment Batman, given a simple nudge in his accent.

And "in shape fast"? The dude's BEEN in shape. Are you not aware of anything whatsoever?

    1. In all seriousness he rocked in Argo. But then again that is a completely different character.

I issues is this Christian Bale - 3:10 to Yuma, The Machinist, Reign of Fire(Crappy movie but look at the acting.)), Shaft, American Psycho

Ben Affleck - Argo, Smokin' Aces, The Town, Daredevil, Pearl Harbor.

Ben hasn't shown a real gritty side that is remotely like the current crop of Batman we've been dealing with over the last 10 years. Is it possible? Sure. But right now I'm doubtful.

  13. Nope. Not going to get over it. Its not the body that IMHO is the problem. That can be bulked up easily enough. Its the person. I've watched more Affleck movies then I care to admit. He has a certain persona that he brings to all his characters. Unless he pulls something completely original I can not see him pulling off a man as complex, and as scarred as Bruce Wayne. More then anything I see him pull of a batman in the same vein as Val Kilmer, and that was horrid. Not George Clooney bad, but not good.

  14. Any person who gives advise to get over this appalling news should seek the services of a psychiatrist. Ultimately , Affleck will drag down the Batman franchise to Joel schumcher levels firstly because he does not look the part ( FYI: only bulking up does not make a person look the part ) & second & most importantly he will not be able to bring 1/100th of the onscreen persona that Christian Bale brought. His only other superhero foray was Daredevil and we ll know how that turned out. His performance in films like Argo does not count because those were completely different foray of movies.
Even if we take all of their movies into consideration Bale has a way more impressive resume than affleck as an actor

    1. Really? A psychiatrist? Full of yourself much? Shumacher dragged those movies down, not the actors. Bale was not a good Bruce Wayne.

  15. P.s : the point about the frenzy about the casting of heath ledger & then being proven wrong.
If that point works every time then WB might as well do this :

  16. Ya When people say "well he's won two Oscars" I want to just vomit because he has never won an Oscar for his acting he's won a razzie for worst actor (no Ben lovers mention that tho) and he wasn't even man enough to go get it! His best roles are when he can actually use his Bahston (i.e. The Town)accent and he ended Daredevil before it started, and Killed Jack Ryan off He is a good director much better than an actor and he never really does cover that accent up without appearing to try to act. Really has he ever carried a movie so well that they made sequels to it? Can't think of any Gotham is suppose to be a fictional version of NY not Bahston send the Masshole back there. Joss Whedon had it right "He'll crush it" not only Batman but Superman and any hopes for a Justice league movie. Marvel is somewhere laughing I know I won't go see this like many others

  17. Affleck is like that girl who only looks pretty when she is hanging out with other pretty girls, when he is in a movie with people who can actually act he almost looks like he can act which is why he's a better director than actor

  18. Relax folks, Bryan Cranston is Lex Luthor ... the movie will be great.

Also, the blooger/writer of this article makes excellent points.
