With Preacher just around the corner, we get some interesting news.
As
production continues on the first season of AMC's Preacher, the network has announced that Jackie Earle Haley has
been cast as one of the most bizarre villains of the Vertigo Comic series.
Haley has signed on to play Odin Quincannon, a wealthy owner of a Texas meat
processing plant, for six episodes. This news will no doubt delight and disturb
longtime fans of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon series.
The Quincannon story
line will be an especially touchy subject considering the characters extreme
racist views against people of color. As if the subject matter of Preacher wasn't controversial enough,
his inclusion in the series practically guarantees some interesting water cooler
and chat-room discussions. Quincannon doesn't make an appearance in the series
until issue 42, so it's apparent producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are
hitting some sweet spots from the series for the first season. The critical
reception will be interesting to say the least, but with altered adaptations of
religion being a hot theme as of late, it'll definitely attract attention. With
the Arseface story line also in play, the first season promises to be
memorable.

The first episode of Preacher is set to premier at the SXSW
festival in March. No official date has bet set by AMC, but Rogen has hinted at
a mid 2016 network premier.
