With Ben-Hur not really setting the box office ablaze, this is extremely shocking. But it appears that the tale of Spartacus is being revitalized as a futuristic sci-fi blockbuster. The film is in the early stages of development and is being helmed by the director of Taken 3, Oliver Megaton.
The film will update the story of the legendary character but will shift focus to an updated version about a man imprisoned for terrorism that must win back his freedom by entering the gladiatorial battle arena. It's hard to see how this will be a viable property with the shuttered ticket sales of the Ben-Hur remake. But, Hollywood is keen to keep on remaking everything.
The Champion is set to start filming in early 2017 with a release date still not announced.
