In a recent interview with Collider, Adam Driver gave a little insight into the Star Wars: Episode VIII script and how it will be similar to Empire Strikes Back and different from Episode VII.
Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, said that, “[The script is] great. It’s similar to how ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ has a different tone. For that people always go, ‘oooh, it’s dark,’ but I don’t know that it necessarily is. It’s just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary, but also very clear,” Driver said. “[Writer Rian Johnson] trusts [that] his audience is ready for nuance and ambiguity. He’s not dumbing anything down for someone and that’s really fun to play.”
Not much else is really known about the script, because very little information has come out so far and the film is shrouded in secrecy. It will be interesting to see how dark they do take this film, especially considering that rumors regarding the Rogue One re-shoots were a result of the picture being too dark for a Disney production. Only time will tell as its release date is December 15, 2017. Until then, we have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story due out on December 16th.
