Doctor Strange is proving to be a box office juggernaut, far exceeding international box office projections.
The film opened with $86 million at the international box office, far ahead of the projected total of between $55-60 million. It opened in 33 countries this weekend, which accounts for 45 percent of the film's overall market reach. It was most successful in Korea. So far it is outperforming prior Marvel film's in the same 33 countries; this includes Ant-Man by 49 percent, Guardians of the Galaxy by 37 percent, Captain America: Winter Soldier by 23 percent, and Thor: The Dark World by 1 percent. This in all likelihood, should bode well for its upcoming domestic release.
