Doctor Strange slayed some trolls and a period war drama to win its opening weekend box office.
The new Marvel film won its opening weekend box office with an estimated $85 million, putting it ahead of the opening weekends of Thor: The Dark World, Ant-Man, and Captain America: The First Avenger. It was slightly behind Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: Winter Soldier. It ended up being the fourteenth consecutive Marvel Cinematic Universe film to debut #1 at the box office.
Trolls came in second place with a weekend total estimated at $45.6 million. Hacksaw Ridge earned $14.7 million for third place.
