Benedict Cumberbatch is attached to star in the adaptation of Matt Haig's upcoming novel titled How to Stop Time. The novel was purchased by his production company SunnyMarch, who will co-produce with Studiocanal. Cumberbatch will serve as executive producer along with Jamie Byng, CEO of Canongate, the books publisher.

The novel is about Tom Hazard, a 41 year old man that has a rare medical condition that has kept him alive for centuries. It is “a wildly imagined love story that spans centuries and continents, and cements Haig’s reputation as one of the most original and exciting novelists of his generation,” according to a statement. Haig's most recent release was the children's book The Girl Who Saved Christmas. He previously released Reasons to Stay Alive and The Humans.
