L. Frank Baum's classic tale The Wizard of Oz has been transformed into numerous incarnations throughout the years. From the original film to the animated world of Oz to musical The Wiz to the James Franco starring sequel to various other versions, his tales of the wonderful yellow brick road have been a mainstay in film and television for years. Now, New Line Cinema is paving a path stained in blood. The company behind The Conjuring series, the Annabelle movies, and obviously the originators behind The Nightmare on Elm Street saga are looking to turn a classic on its head.
They are currently in the process of adapting The Wizard of Oz into a straight up horror flick. No word has come down on the direction they're going to go with this, but it sounds like a phenomenal idea. Often times, vintage properties require a total overhaul to make them interesting again. And this idea might just be a great one.
