One big rumor that has been floating around between Alien: Covenant and the original Alien series is the possible connections between the character Daniels played by Katherine Waterston and Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, specifically that Daniels is Ellen Ripley's mother. They do possess a similar look and what initially appears to be similar characteristics, but Scott has shot down this theory. In a roundtable discussion at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, he told MovieWeb that there were preliminary discussions about there relationship, but it didn't go any further than each of them being strong female characters:“No. That was probably way back when. ‘Should she be the daughter of Ripley?’ I said ‘no.’ She’s herself.”
