Star Wars: Rogue One will go down as one of the most unhappy endings of the entire saga. By now, most of us know the fate of the film's heroes. With the movie hitting blu-ray in just a few weeks, the co-writer of the film has commented on the alternative ending that would have taken it in a completely different direction and would have left it wide open for another entry starring the same set of galactic heroes. When speaking with Collider, co-writer Gary Whitta revealed the other ending:
"They got away in an escape pod just in time. The pod looked like just another piece of debris…The transfer of the plans happened later. They jumped away and later [Leia’s] ship came in from Alderaan to help them. The ship-to-ship data transfer happened off Scarif.”
Surprisingly enough, Disney let them go the darker route and allowed a Star Wars movie to have a more adult oriented theme about the effects and ravages of war.
