Box Office Report: 4/14-4/16 - Fate of the Furious Speeds Past the Force Awakens as Biggest Global Opening Ever

The Fate of the Furious was always expected to be a huge box office hit. With the perfect handling of Paul Walker's death in Part 7 and a fan base that continues to grow, the action packed cinematic property was definitely set for a massive opening weekend at the box office. With an expected gross of $400 million, this eight iteration of fast cars and explosions is not the biggest opening of all time. The film took in  $532.5 million in its first few days in the global market. This is a huge tally and officially beats The Force Awakens' record. It took in just over $100 million domestically.

In second place was the animated comedy, Boss Baby with another $15.5 million. Beauty and the Beast came in third and finally hit the $1 billion mark. In fourth was the latest Smurfs movie. And the fifth place spot went to the hilarious comedy, Going in Style.
