News: Cinesite Will Do VFX For Duncan Jones's Netflix Sci-Fi Film Mute

British VFX company Cinesite has agreed to collaborate with Duncan Jones on his Netflix film Mute, which is currently in post-production. Cinesite previously worked with Duncan, and his production company Liberty Hill, on his debut feature Moon. It makes sense that they would reteam on this project, as Jones is dubbing this a "spiritual sequel" to Moon. Jones 2009 science fiction debut Moon starred Sam Rockwell as an astronaut alone on a three-year contracted moon mission.

Cinesite did all of the visual effects for Moon, accounting for more than 270 VFX shots. This includes the CG robot named GERTY who was voiced by Kevin Spacey. Salvador Zalvidea will be the VFX supervisor on the project. Cinesite is also currently working on visual effects for American Gods, The Commuter, and Robin Hood: Origins.

The motion picture is about a mute bartender (Alexander Skarsgard) living in a futuristic Berlin, who goes searching for his girlfriend when she goes missing. It also stars Seyneb Saleh, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux and Noel Clarke. It was co-written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson. It is expected to be released on Netflix sometime later this year.
