News: Edgar Wright Close To Directing Post-Apocalyptic Adaptation Of Grasshopper Jungle

Edgar Wright's newest movie Baby Driver is set to be released on June 28th, but the director is quickly moving forward with his next project. THR is reporting that Wright's adaptation of the young adult novel Grasshopper Jungle is close to being picked up by New Regency. Several other companies were initially bidding for the rights. The adaptation is based on the novel released in 2014 and written by Andrew Smith. It is a post-apocalyptic tale that is set in the small town of Ealing, Iowa:

"Austin and his best friend, Robby, have accidentally unleashed an unstoppable army. An army of horny, hungry, six-foot-tall praying mantises that only want to do two things."

It sounds like it will be some type of wild concoction that blends Phase IV with Stung. Edgar Wright is perfect for that, having already helmed the horror comedy Shaun of the Dead.
