Sony has announced that the live-action Masters of the Universe reboot will be released on December 18th, 2019. McG was originally set to direct, but stepped down. The studio is currently searching for a new director. David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) is writing the script. The question becomes whether He-Man is still relevant in this era. While there would be appeal to fans from the '80s and collectors, will they be able to draw in a completely new audience. The 1987 live-action film had sequel intentions, but bombed at the box office and fell into guilty pleasure viewing and a cult film status.
