Looks like Emperor Motion Picture will be restoring Takashi Miike’s gore-drenched Ichi the Killer. Originally shot on beta and converted to 35mm, the original master isn't the prettiest thing to work with and the reasons previous releases of Ichi the Killer have been far less than stellar.
Hopefully the results will be as ideal as they can be, given the original quality. The only copy I currently own is a woefully bootleg DVD set with the worst "Engrish" imaginable plastered all over it. This news definitely has my attention and avoiding the current blu-ray release like the plague seems to have paid off.
