News: Syfy Picks Up Paranormal Series Starring Vincent D’Onofrio & Kim Coates

Syfy has reached a deal to air the paranormal action series Ghost Wars, which will star Vincent D’Onofrio, Kim Coates, Avan Jogia, Kristin Lehman and Meatloaf. It is being produced by Van Helsing producer Nomadic Pictures, who Syfy has previously worked with. It will consist of ten episodes and is expected to premiere in 2017 in the US on Syfy and internationally on Netflix.

Simon Barry is the creator and showrunner for the series, with the directors consisting of David Von Ancken, Leslie Hope, Michael Nankin, Mathias Herdndl, Jason Priestley and Barry. Nomadic Pictures’ Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev are executive producing along with Barry, Dennis Heaton and Von Ancken.

The series is set in a remote Alaskan town, which is overrun by paranormal forces. An outcast (Jogia) has to overcome personal issues and the town's prejudice in order to control his psych powers and save the town from the mass haunting that could destroy everyone. Barry says that:

Ghost Wars is not just a contemporary homage to classic psychological horror, it’s also an opportunity to tell stories about human politics and how we shape our beliefs and lives based on our individual perspectives and biases,” Barry said. “Science, Humanism, Religion and the Paranormal all get a seat at the table. I’m grateful that Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev have assembled such a wealth of talent, both in front of and behind the camera, to hopefully elevate this genre series beyond expectations.”
