News: Paramount And Bad Robot Project Gets Fall 2018 Release, Possibly Set Within Cloverfield Universe

Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot have announced a release date for their World War II drama titled Overlord.

It is currently scheduled to be released on October 26, 2018. It is written by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), it will be directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun), and stars Jovan Adepo (Fences), Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror), Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones), Iain de Caestecker (Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane), and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo). It will be produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber through Bad Robot. The synopsis is below:

“On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.”

There is no official confirmation that Overlord will be part of the Cloverfield universe at this time. Speculation involves the October release date and the ever expanding universe that is being created. Bad Robot has another feature called God Particle that has been confirmed as the third film within the Cloverfield universe, which will be released on October 27, 2017. Putting the puzzle pieces together, it  makes sense that they would release recurring films within the franchise around the same time each year.
