News: Universal's Dark Universe Adds the Hunchback and Phantom

Universal Pictures is really ramping up their reboot of their classic creatures.

With The Mummy hitting theaters this weekend, the newly revitalized cast of monsters is going to be their version of the Marvel or DC universe. The Bride of Frankenstein is already on their release schedule as is the The Invisible Man, Van Helsing, The Wolf Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Over the next few years, we'll be treated to new takes on all their vintage properties.

Tonight comes word that the studio is now planning on continuing the trend by adding The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Phantom of the Opera to the expanding roster. Initially, Dracula Untold was meant to be the launching pad for this monstrous universe, but the studio recanted after the film failed to do great box office numbers. By attaching bigger name stars to these characters, they plan on finding solid footing for the relaunch.
