Paramount Pictures has announced that production has begun on the Bumblebee Transformers Spinoff film, with WWE superstar John Cena being cast as the lead role. It is being directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), and also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. The plot synopsis that was released by the studio is below.
"The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug."
This is easily the biggest role so far for Cena, who has been steadily committing more time to film projects than professional wrestling. His recent films include The Wall, Sisters, and Daddy's Home. His other upcoming films are Daddy's Home 2, and The Pact.
