First reported by THR, Shazam! has been confirmed to be the next film the next film that DC Entertainment will have go into production. David F. Sandberg has been brought on to direct. He is best known for Lights Out and the forthcoming Annabelle: Creation. New Line Cinemas is looking to begin shooting in January or February 2018. The character of Shazam is a boy who can transform into Earth's mightiest mortal. There is no word on who will star as Shazam or if Dwayne Johnson would appear. According to the report:
"It is unclear whether Dwayne Johnson, who has long been attached to play Shazam! villain Black Adam, will be involved with Shazam! But he is attached as star and producer of the Black Adam spinoff being developed concurrently to Shazam!"
It's hard to imagine that Johnson wouldn't appear as Black Adam, setting the stage for his own film. As for an actor portraying Shazam, Johnson has previously mentioned that he would like Armie Hammer to take on fill the role.
