Rumors of Ben Affleck's exit as Batman have been floating around for months now, ever since he stepped down as director of The Batman. Since that time, Matt Reeves has taken over directing duties and has scrapped the screenplay that Affleck and DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns had written. While everyone is still saying that Affleck is who they want, THR has reported from inside sources that "the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck’s Batman — gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films."

They aren't sure when or how this will happen, but the report believes "it would be wise to bet against Affleck starring in The Batman." Reeves already has a trilogy in mind and the question is whether Affleck would be willing to commit to three demanding films, which would put him in his fifties when the trilogy is finally completed. Another scenario that is mentioned is using two versions of Batman, keeping Affleck in the Justice League films and casting a new version for Reeves Batman trilogy.

The writing has been on the wall now for quite sometime, despite what all parties are saying. It would be sad to see Affleck step down before getting the opportunity for a solo film, but we should all be prepared for that to happen.
