It is based upon a youth fantasy novel of the same name written by Lauren Kate. The book is the first of five books in the series, plus a sixth that is an annex. The film was written by Michael Arlen Ross, Kathryn Price, and Nichole Millard, directed by Scott Hicks, and stars Addison Timlin, Jeremy Irvine, Harrison Gilbertson, and Joely Richardson.
