Box Office News: Kingsmen Kills The Clown. Lego Falls Apart.

This weekend proved to be a strange one at the box office. The newest adaptation of Stephen King's IT was finally knocked from the top spot by Matthew Vaughn's new sequel, Kingsmen: The Golden Circle. Overall numbers and general interest in the sequel was much higher than initially expected. This latest adventure in the comic book saga brought in $39 million which is higher than the original's opening figures of $36 million.  A smart marketing campaign definitely paid off for the Kingsmen brand.

The epic horror tale IT fell to the second slot with another massive $30 million, continuing its run as the highest grossing horror movie of all time. With numbers like this, the studio will definitely be looking to get that sequel out as fast as possible. With the scary clown continuing to drum up good numbers at the box office, the latest Lego animated flick, Ninjago was absolutely crushed by the two winners. Coming it at a terrible $21 million, people may be tiring of these already.  Considering Lego Batman opened to $53 million, this is a huge drop off for a branded property like this.

American Assassin and Home Again rounded out the top five as Darren Aronofsky's 'horror' film mother! slips to number six.
