News: J.J. Abrams Will Direct Star Wars: Episode IX



Disney and LucasFilm have brought back a familiar face to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, with J.J. Abrams replacing Colin Trevorrow as director of the upcoming film. StarWars.com released a brief press release indicating that Abrams will direct and co-write the script with Chris Terrio. LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that:

"With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy."

Disney and LucasFilm have moved fast to find a replacement, Trevorrow was removed from Episode IX about a week ago. Production was expected to begin in February of 2018, it is uncertain if they will be ready to begin shooting by then. The film is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2019.
