News: SyFy Orders George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers To Series

A few months back we reported that SyFy was working on a pilot for a new translation of George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers as a pilot. Apparently, they're so impressed with how it's coming out that they've already green lit the entire first season. Originally published as a science fiction short in 1980 by Analog Science Fiction and Fact, the story was turned into a 1987 film that didn't do very well at the box office. It starred '80s female lead Catherine Mary Stewart.

Now with Martin's Game of Thrones prepping its concluding season, another one of his properties may become a huge hit for the SyFy in partnership with Netflix. If they can put a reasonable budget behind the show, the cable outlet may be able to bring over a lot of HBO's viewership for this series.

Although Martin will not be directly involved in creating future stories for the project, Doug Liman is on board as an executive producer.
