In the aftermath of Game of Thrones epic finale, many have been wondering how HBO is going to keep viewers interested in their original programming while folks wait to return to Westeros. HBO might have found their own solution by green lighting True Detective Season 3.
After a two year absence following the critically polarizing
season 2, creator/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto has teamed up with beloved HBO
veteran David Milch (Deadwood, Luck) to come up with a story for a third season
of the anthology series, and Oscar-winning Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali
signed on to star earlier this summer.
HBO has now given the green light to True Detective Season
3, via The Hollywood Reporter, announcing that Green Room and Blue Ruin
filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier will direct alongside Pizzolatto, who will make his
directorial debut on the third season.
The announcement not only revealed the creative team behind
season 3 but our first glimpse at the plot of season 3 as well. The synopsis is
as follows, “True Detective season 3 will tell the story of a macabre crime in
the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out
in three separate time periods. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a
state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.”
Following that synopsis, it seems as though HBO and
Pizzolatto are try to return to what made that first season so magical and
engaging for the viewers. Let’s hope they succeed.
