News: NBC Nabs Bad Boys TV Spinoff Starring Gabrielle Union

With Bad Boys 3 effectively dead, the franchise is set to step into the realm of broadcast television. First reported by Deadline, NBC has won a tough competition for a Bad Boys spinoff series starring Gabrielle Union. The series will focus on the character special agent Syd Burnett, who makes a move from Miami to Los Angeles. Portrayed by Union in Bad Boys II, Syd Burnett is the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and ends up being romantically involved with Marcus' partner Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowery (Will Smith).

The spinoff will be written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier (The Blacklist) and will see Syd Burnett in the LAPD, leaving her past behind and pursuing an adventurous Los Angeles lifestyle. Things get complicated when her new partner, Nancy McKenna, discovers that Syd's lifestyle may be hiding a larger personal secret.

It is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer TV, Doug Belgrad, and Primary Wave Entertainment, with Sony Pictures TV Studios serving as the studio. Margolis, Sonnier, Union, Belgrad, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, and Jeff Morrone will all serve as executive producers.
