Rumor Mill: Star Wars: Episode IX Working Title Revealed

Hot of the heels of the tremendous opening weekend for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we are being treated to some news regarding Episode IX. Fantha Tracks has reported that the working title for Star Wars: Episode IX is "Black Diamond" and the film is being produced under the business name Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd.

The two names actually tie together. Carbonado is an impure from of polycrystalline diamond that is commonly known as "black diamond," the toughest form of natural diamond. Carbonado exhibits strong luminescence, which also ties into the Star Wars films. Yoda uses the word luminous in scene with Luke during The Empire Strikes Back, saying:

"For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere! Yes, even between the land and the ship."

JJ Abrams took over the directing helms after Colin Trevorrow was removed from the film due to creative differences a few months back. Abrams stepped back in to complete the sequel trilogy he started with The Force Awakens, co-writing with Chris Terrio. He recently pitched his updated script ideas to Lucasfilm. Episode IX is set to go into production in June of 2018 with the film hitting theaters in December of 2019.
