News: Denis Villeneuve Comments That Dune Reboot is Star Wars For Adults

Perhaps one of the most exciting things happening in science fiction film right now is the fact that Denis Villeneuve is rebooting Dune for the cinema.

Since the maligned David Lynch version and a made for television series, Dune has been missing from the public eye for a long time. Now, the mastermind behind Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 is stepping into the project headlong and seems to be excited about the prospects the film holds. He'll be taking visual cues from the original source material as he adapts it to his own style and vision. Eric Roth is in charge of scripting the feature. He's previously worked on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Forrest Gump.

When discussing the project with Fandom, Villeneuve had this to say:

“Most of the main ideas of Star Wars are coming from Dune so it’s going to be a challenge to [tackle] this. The ambition is to do the Star Wars movie I never saw. In a way, it’s Star Wars for adults. We’ll see.”

Currently, he's only planning on adapting the original novel to the screen with the potential of making sequels if the movie does well.
