After a season two that failed to capture the same heights as the first, HBO abandoned True Detective fearing that it could never recapture the dramatic glory that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson brought to the original series. The second year was a dismal disappointment that lost all the luster that fans had come back for. The channel quickly moved away from continuing with a season three. Of course that's all changed in the past few months. The show will be making a comeback with a great new cast.
Starring Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff, the next episodes go into production in the next couple months but apparently HBO is in no hurry to get this to the screen. Season three will not be hitting the cable giant until some time in 2019. The new incarnation is going to follow a similar format as season one and will follow one crime over the course of three different time periods.
It sounds like HBO is really getting this brand back on track. With a great set of stars, this could be a great return to form.
