Apparently, David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity, The Unborn) doesn't have the power as he has stepped down from the Masters of the Universe project. Originally Goyer was brought on by Sony to write and direct the new live action feature film that would bring the He-Man universe back to the big screen. Variety first reported that Sony Pictures is now searching for a new director, with Sony noting on their site that:
"The filmmaker and screenwriter has had to drop out because of other commitments."
Goyer, who wrote the script, will still stay on as executive producer. There is no word at this time on whether Sony has any directors that are at the top of their list, if the script will change with a new director, or if this will delay the production. The film is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2019.
