News: Lupita Nyong’o To Star In Remake Of John Woo's The Killer



Lupita Nyong’o has been cast star in a new version of John Woo's 1989 iconic action film and The Killer. First reported by Deadline, Universal Pictures sand John Woo are teaming up on a re-imagining of the film, with Nyong'o playing the assassin role that Chow Yun-fat originally portrayed with Woo directing.

The script was written Eran Creevy (Collide), based on a draft by Cloverfield Lane‘s Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. eOne’s Mark Gordon is producing along with Woo. Matt Jackson, Lori Tilkin and Luc Etienne are serving as executive producers with Terence Chang. eOne’s Josh Clay Phillips will also have a producing role and is overseeing the project. Production is expected to begin later this year in France and Germany.

Nyong’o won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave, followed by appearances in two Star Wars films and Black Panther. The Killer, she see her playing an assassin who becomes obsessed with a woman that she accidentally blinded during a hit. The original is known for its balletic, stylized gunfight scenes, with the remake adding espionage with extraordinary stunts to capture the feel of the original.
