News: Godzilla vs. Kong Working Title Revealed




With a date and location announced for 
Godzilla vs. Kong, it was only a matter of time before more information about the production would start to roll in. According to a listing on Production Weekly, the working title for Godzilla vs. Kong is Apex. The word means top top or highest point of something, in this case Apex would mean an animal that is at the top of the food chain with no natural predators. In April, the working title for Godzilla: King of the Monsters was revealed to be Fathom by Production Weekly, so they are considered a reliable source. 

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will continue what Warner Bros. hopes to be a new and expanded MonsterVerse, with the sequel looking to take a step towards Godzilla vs. Kong.directed by Michael Dougherty and written by Dougherty, Zach Shields and Max Borenstein. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a sequel to Godzilla (2014) and will be the 35th film in the Godzilla franchise, the third film in Legendary's MonsterVerse, and the third Godzilla film to be completely produced by a Hollywood studio. It stars Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 22, 2019.

Godzilla vs. Kong
is expected to begin production in late October in Atlanta. Godzilla: King of the Monsters was also shot in the same location from June through September of 2017. Being so close to a production date, the casting process is expected to be underway. Filming of Godzilla vs. Kong is expected go on until February.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard. Though Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts isn’t a part of the project, he has assured that Wingard shares the same vision as his in understanding “the kind of anime, manga, mech sensibility that I[Roberts] was trying to bring to Kong,” said the Skull Island director to Collider.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be released in theaters on May 22, 2020. Wingard has mostly directed horror and has an extremely loyal fan base that sticks by his side. His credits include the most recent Blair Witch, The Guest, You're Net, Death Note and the first two V/H/S movies.
