News: The Hitman’s Bodyguard Sequel In The Works

Lionsgate is working on finalizing a deal for U.S. rights to The Hitman’s Bodyguard sequel, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. The distributor is waiting for agreements with the key cast members before announcing a deal.

The sequel will reunite the main actors from the first movie. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are in early discussion for the sequel, which Lionsgate is hoping could shoot as early as later this year. Director Patrick Hughes is also expected to return for the sequel, with action specialist Millennium gathering finance for this week at Cannes. The script is from Tom O’Connor, but there is no word regarding the plot.

The 2017 film The Hitman’s Bodyguard ended up grossing close to $80 million domestically and more than $180 million worldwide. It performed better than expected, so it's not a huge surprise that a sequel could be forthcoming.
