Rumor Mill: Free Fire Director Ben Wheatley Offered Big Marvel Film

British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Free Fire) has reportedly been offered a “big Marvel film,"  according to a comment made on The Adam Buxton Podcast.

Buxton was interviewing comedian and actor Bob Mortimer, who was discussing some of his future projects when he mentioned that one project hit a snag due to Wheatley being offered the Marvel film. He said that:

“We’ve got [a script] in at the moment that nearly got going that we hope we’ll make which is about Michael Jackson. He left a glove, one of his training gloves that he used when he wasn’t on stage, and it’s a very valuable item now and there’s a few people trying to get ownership of it. It’s just a road movie thing. But we were about to start that and then, you know Ben Wheatley? Ben Wheatley got offered one of the big Marvel films, so it wasn’t for us to say ‘you ain’t doing that, Ben, you’ve got to do our thing’.”

Wheatley has multiple projects currently lined up, including the sci-fi thriller Freakshift with Alicia Vikander and Armie Hammer and the Colin You Anus, which was shot earlier this year. His prior credits include Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England, High-Rise, and Free Fire. In the past, Wheatley has expressed interest in making a version of Marvel Zombies, which sees various comic book heroes and villains get turned into zombies. There is no word on whether that is the potential Marvel film, or something entirely different.
