With the apparent successes of Star Trek: Discovery, it looks like CBS is looking to expand the universe into multiple shows that will now be overseen by Alex Kurtzman. He just signed a five year deal that will see the production of several new entries including shows, mini-series, and potentially some animation. Several ideas have already been pitched and some are already in development reports Variety.
The new ideas include a Starfleet Academy series, an event series that is said to be developed around the events of The Wrath of Khan, and an animated series that no details have been announced about.
Kurtzman served in a producer role on the film franchise reboot and obviously has many successful movies and shows on his resume. We're excited to see where this goes. We can definitely use more Trek.
