Skyscraper basically bombed in its opening frame with a third place spot and a meager $25 million in ticket sales. Falling well below expectations of $35-40 million, it may struggle domestically and may have a hard time meeting its $125 million budget. Definitely inspired by Die Hard, the marketing behind it definitely failed to get the attention needed for a major summer release.
In the number one slot was Hotel Transylvania 3 with $44 million and the second place position went to Ant-Man and the Wasp with another $29 million. Skyscraper is the third big budget release starring Dwayne Johnson to hit cinemas in the last six months.
