Cinematic Releases: Mission Improbable: Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018) - Reviewed

That’s right, Mission Improbable, what are the odds that the sixth movie in a franchise would be its best? None, the odds don’t exist, it hasn’t happened before. Yet, here we are, Mission: Impossible Fallout is the best entry in a franchise full of truly solid espionage action flicks.

Going in I have twenty years of Mission: Impossible going through my head, the ups and the downs. Mostly I’m asking myself, how do you top Rogue Nation? It was an amazing spectacle, stunning stunts, good acting and of course Simon Pegg at his usual gold standard of comedy. Couldn’t be done, it really would be "mission impossible" to pull that off. Now here I am, eating crow, Tom Cruise is as Tom Cruise as can be, Alec Baldwin as usual was a gem, Simon Pegg was amazingly geeky and funny and Ving Rhames his usual awesome too cool for school self. Oh, did I mention Henry Cavill was, super? I mean it, he was dead on perfect as CIA Agent August Walker, and Angela Bassett was her bad ass self always the strongest most imposing person in the room.

All of us come to these movies for the stunts that no sane human would try, none the less the star of the movie. They did cover some familiar ground here, but as usual, found a way to go so over the top, we are left staring stunned at the screen. It’s what makes these movies so special, they cover ground no one else wants to attempt in this age of digital stunt work and perfect physical stunts.

Mission: Impossible Fallout does have one weak point and it's the story. The plot does feel like a retread of previous movies in the franchise. It’s predictable, but that doesn’t detract from the fun, in fact, it just makes it easier to munch your popcorn and relax, you already know what’s coming, but never like this.

So here I am, having gratefully eaten crow, writing a review for a movie that I have to say was some of the most fun I’ve had in a theater in a very long time. Go see this movie, I’ll stake my non existent reputation on one fact, you’ll have a hell of a lot of fun.
