Box Office News: Get Religious: The Nun Scares Up A Franchise High

The Conjuring series and its evil movie offspring continues to be a major phenomenon at the box office. Spun off from the tale of the Warren's paranormal research, the latest entry in the franchise has delivered the goods with a massive global weekend opening of $131 million. With $53.5 million from domestic ticket sales alone, it's now the second biggest September opening of all time and had the best opening frame of any of the films in the series. The original Conjuring took in $41.8 million over its first weekend. The Nun even surpassed last year's global opening of IT, which took in $123.4 million.

Also, at the box office this weekend, the Tom Cruise action vehicle Mission Impossible: Fallout is officially the star's highest grossing movie of his career. The film now stands at $725 million globally.
