The world of the animated Spider-Verse is about to get a whole lot bigger. It looks like Sony is gearing up to launch a sequel and spinoff to the animated film that will feature an all female cast. Sony Pictures Animation is teaming with director Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar:The Last Airbender, Voltron) to helm the sequel with Lauren Montgomery in negotiations to direct the feminine charged off shoot. Bek Smith is being handed all scripting duties. This means they feel extremely confident in the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that's right around the corner.
Producer Amy Pascal is already attached to both upcoming projects with Phil Lord and Chris Miller still being connected in creative roles for both movies. Avi Arad is obviously involved in both features also, while his capacity is not currently known.
