New to Blu Picks: March 5, 2019



Here are Dawn's blu-ray picks for this week! There aren't quite as many as last week but still a fairly decent assortment of unique boutique releases for the dead of winter. 


The Favourite (2018)
Olivia Colman’s Oscar winning performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Queen Anne period piece is available for the first time on a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital release. With its nomination for an additional nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it is a film not to miss.

Sister Street Fighter Collection(1974)Arrow Video is releasing this Street Fighter (1974) spinoff collection of four films with a ton of extras. The films included are Sister Street Fighter, Sister Street Fighter: Hanging by a Thread, Return of the Sister Street Fighter, and Sister Street Fighter: Fifth Level Fist. Special Features include HD transfers of all four films, Original uncompressed Japanese mono audio, Original English dubbed audio for Sister Street Fighter, New English subtitle translations of all four films, New Interviews with Sonny Chiba, director Kazuhiko Yamaguchi, and screenwriter Masahiro Kakefuda, plus more.





Vox Lux (2018)Universal Studios is releasing Natalie Portman’s 2018 music drama for the first time on Blu-ray. Includes a digital copy of the film and “Wrapped Up” music video.

Phantom Lady (1944)Arrow Video is releasing Robert Siodmak’s Film-Noir classic for the first time on Blu-ray. Special features include and HD (1080p) transfer from original film elements, uncompressed mono audio, dark and Deadly: 50Years of Film Noir documentary, reversible sleeve and more.

Burning (2018)Arguable the best performance of actor Steven Yeun’s career, this Korean mystery/drama, based on a story by best-selling author Haruki Murakami, is now available on Blu-ray. It is a film worthy of any collection.

In The Aftermath (1988)
Arrow Video is releasing Carl Colpaert’s post-apocalyptic vision on Blu-ray for the first time. The film mixes repurposed excerpts from Mamour Oshii’s Angel’s Egg with live action footage, making it a compelling watch. Special features include a 2K restoration from original film elements, interviews with the film’s producer Tom Dugan and star Tony Markes, and more.

Prospect (2018)Gundpowder & Sky is releasing this 2018 sci-fi thriller on Blu-ray for the first time. Starring Pedro Pascal, Sohie Thatcher and Jay Duplass, it is a fresh take on a tale of hoping to strike at rich and worthy of your collection.\

The Grand Duel (1972)Arrow Video is releasing Lee Van Cleef’s spaghetti western for the first time on Blu-ray. Special features include a 2K restoration from the original 35mm negative, uncompressed mono audio, original English and Italian soundtrack, new audio commentary by film historian and critic Stephen Prince, interview with director Giancarlo Santi, and more.
