Star Wars News: Benioff and Weiss Trilogy To Begin in 2022

Just last week it was reported that a new trilogy of Star Wars movies would be kicking off in 2022 after they take a brief hiatus after The Rise of Skywalker. But no announcement was released about which trilogy this would be or who would be behind the latest set of films. Well, the CEO of Disney has now stated that Game of Thrones masterminds, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' trilogy will be the next we'll see in the theatrical universe. Coming right off the finale of the hit HBO series, the two have already begun work on what will be the latest addition to the ever growing galaxy of films. Bob Iger did not give any hint as to what these will be about or the the timeframe, but during the Moffett Nathanson Media and Communciations Summit, the head honcho affirmed that this was the primary focus for the Star Wars cinematic realm at this time.

And still, with new rumors swirling that the Rian Johnson trilogy was once again either put on the back burner or totally cancelled, there was no mention or update on that project. Obviously, Benioff and Weiss were extremely successful with Game of Thrones, but seem to be facing some backlash over the rushed conclusion for the show. But that should have no effect on their work on Star Wars.
