Perhaps one of the longest running horror mythologies of all time is the Amityville saga. The story has seen its ups and downs, has been run through the remake ringer and continues to see continual movies drag the subject matter through the mud. With tons of unofficial sequels and continuations that are not directly correlated to the original movie starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder, quality has suffered over the years, making the Amityville Horror a problematic property that no one seems to have the balls to get right. Now, it looks like someone else a taking a stab at the origins of the story with a new film called Amityville 1974.
This latest project will tell the back story behind the DeFeo murders and the events leading up to the supposed haunting. Wonderfilm is behind the movie with Casey La Scala handling writing and directing duties. La Scala had this to say:
"This is a story that takes its jumping-off point from the true facts surrounding the Defeo tragedy, but also focuses on the human drama that took place inside a family as they were relentlessly stalked by a terrifying evil.”
