Forget It, Jake. It's Netflix: Netflix Sets Up A Chinatown Prequel Series

Another day, another streaming series announced. As the streaming wars rage on, every piece of IP around will be turned into something. The latest film to head towards a streaming revival is the 1974 classic, Chinatown.

Tonight, Netflix announced that they have closed a deal with Robert Towne and David Fincher to develop a prequel series based off of the 1974 film. Towne ended up winning the Oscar for the script about a private eye who takes on a case about an adulterer that spirals into something more insidious.

The idea behind the prequel series would be to focus on a young Jake Gittes (played in the film by Jack Nicholson) as he works on his business in a town where wealth and corruption rule. Word is that Fincher might direct the pilot, but that is not part of the deal at this point. We are curious to see what comes of this.
