The Hits Keep Coming: Black Adam To Lose $50-100 Million at the Box Office

Despite a massive promotional run and a fair release window for the latest DC comic book movie, it looks like Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam was not quite the box office hit they were hoping for. As studios continue to take up major losses after the COVID pandemic shut down theaters for years, it looks like the comic book movie will be the latest flop for DC and Warner Bros.. Right now it's estimated that the film will end up costing the studio somewhere between $50-100 million as the movie wasn't the hit they expected. A new Variety report says the film will end up being a massive loss for WB and didn't even come close to Shazam's box office tally.

This was supposed to help usher in a new era for the studio that would see their restructuring pay off. Well, it didn't quite work out as they had planned and definitely changes the shape of Dwayne Johnson's role as a box office superhero. Typically, his name alone can sell a movie. This time it didn't pan out. It's being compared to the financial failures of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, another 2022 flop.

At this point, we'll have to see how badly this effects the DC film universe going forward. But this isn't good and furthers the struggles they've had in the past. Unfortunate marketing techniques and awful direction have put the DC film universe in a bad place and they may never be able to catch up with their mortal enemy, the MCU.
