Cinematic Releases: This Is The End

In a summer movie season built on fast cars, super heroes, and battles in space, along comes a unique comedy about the end of the world that trumps almost anything I've seen yet this year. After the god awful Hangover III, trepidation set in and I wasn't so sure that anything this summer could make me laugh. Like so many times before, my hesitation was proven invalid as I found myself laughing for 90 minutes straight at this marvel of comedic creativity.

This Is The End is one of the funniest movies I've seen in ages. It's one of those comedies you'll be able to watch endlessly, noticing something new every time. The cameos are endless and the potty humor is relentless while never losing focus on its story about true friendship being tested during the Armageddon. Sound outrageous? It is.

Being a bit of a comedy snob, my expectations were set very low. Not really sure what to expect, I decided to let my guard down and was absolutely surprised at how well they pulled this off. Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride are a perfect comedic team that play off each other with near perfect execution of laugh a minute humor. While their routine is centrally focused on penis jokes, it works with an uncomfortable precision that only these guys know how to pull off. The cameo appearance of Michael Cera is one of the most genius things I've seen in ages. That alone was worth the price of admission.

If you're looking for something different that will make you laugh, definitely see This Is The End. It's a genre crossing film that mixes comedy with disaster film and tosses a whole lot of gore on top, finishing it off with crude humor, sweet visuals and a vast catalog of cameos. If you liked Superbad or Pineapple Express, you'll want to see this movie. It's that good.
